Online Computer Science Tutor
I am a life-long Chicagoan who earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science at UIC. I have 15 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, and a true passion for teaching. I specialize in tutoring Java, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET, Python, Linux, and HTML.
My tutoring career began as an undergraduate, when I helped students at Harper College and UIC with introductory programming classes. Over time, my repertoire expanded to include HS and undergraduate level mathematics and a wide range of programming languages and frameworks.
I am easygoing, organized, focused and goal oriented. I enjoy helping my students succeed and exceed their expectations in courses they previously struggled with. Breaking down complex concepts and making them easier to understand is what I pride myself on as a tutor. I also like to keep sessions fun!
I enjoy spending my free time developing mobile apps, listening to NPR, going to concerts, watching SNL, and hanging out with my wife and kids.

Incredible Tutor...
Jason saved my life!!! I'm a senior at university and got locked into the wrong computer science course by mistake. I was told it was a relatively straight forward web site creation class using Visual Studio -- but found out only after the drop/add deadline that it required learning a substantial bit about ASP. By the end of the course, I was deep underwater. I found Jason on Wyzant's platform and he was one of the very few people that knew ASP. Jason was phenomenal in helping me troubleshoot a complicated assignment. He was understanding of my limited knowledge of the python program and guided me on the ins and outs of what the assignment question was really asking for. Not only that, he was very kind and patient, which means the world to me. It's hard for me to understand concepts very quickly, so his no-rush approach was very welcoming. I only wish I hadn't waited so long to ask for help but Jason was there to guide me. I was at my wit's end in trying to complete the assignment and I was very close to dropping the class. Not only did I not have to drop the class but the best part is that I managed to pass with an A!! Knowledgeable & Can Teach
I'm a mediocre Developer with 25 years of experience and in need of a skills upgrade. In the course of three lessons Jason has made sense of technologies I had only grasped onto bits of and couldn't stay awake through another training video for. Using a useful example (a personal website for my portfolio) he is bringing the technology landscape all together for me and it's fun, even when debugging. Jason is very patient, often answering the same question multiple times, takes his time and is clear (he would be good with children and non native English speakers). The lessons are not low cost but well worth it, particularly considering what tech "training" (usually cert crams) costs and what little you get out of them. Consider him if like me your skills are dated.

The Debugging Master!
Jason is very knowledgeable. He has helped me to debug my projects and I learn a ton from each session. The most important lessons are how to think like a programmer, how to approach the problem-solving process and breaking down some of complex concepts. He has helped me with projects using JavaScript, React, Next JS. Bugs that I worked on for days and still couldn’t resolve, only took Jason less than an hour to fix. Amazing! Jason went over a couple of Java assignments and object-oriented programming concepts with me that I was really struggling with on my own. He really understands that each person learns differently and is able to break down concepts down into understandable descriptions. He's also capable of quickly grasping an ongoing problem and break it down into manageable sections while explaining what's happening. As a student, while I do want my assignments to work, I need to know why things work a certain way and how classes and objects work together to create a functioning program. You can also tell he really understands Java and its history and it is great working with someone who enjoys coding and is very familiar with the purpose behind the code. I would recommend Jason to anyone trying to understand any level of coding or development.

Phenomenal Tutor for College Level CS.
I am currently an undergrad studying computer science, and although I love the material, it seems to fly by a little too fast. I decided to ask Jason for some help, and he was able to very clearly demonstrate the concepts to me. On our first session, he asked me my preferred way of learning, and I explained to him that I need to be able to visualize what is going on conceptually to fully understand the material. He was able to draw up diagrams and charts during our sessions, which helped immensely. In addition, he was able to quickly analyze code he had never seen before, and suggest more efficient methodologies to generate the same result. There was no time wasted on his part by "figuring out" what is going on in my assignments, and he always came prepared. For any programming related (dealing specifically with code) tutoring that you may require, I would strongly recommend Jason to you.

I was having trouble understanding Java for a Data Structures class but I wasn't sure exactly what I couldn't understand.
